The common chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs), usually simply called the chaffinch, is a common and widely distributed small passerine bird in the finch family. Surely everyone saw it and heard her beautiful singing. Finches are slightly smaller than sparrows. The male is more colorful than the female. The males arrive first in late March or early April. This year, I noticed on March 26. Finches are insectivores in spring and summer and only feed on seeds in autumn. Sometimes there are even two broods of finches. In September and October, they fly to warm countries. This is the song of the finch so well known. Males usually sing two or three different kinds of songs, and there are also regional dialects.
Below you can see photos of male, female and young birds taken by a very good bird photographer I. Chernatkin from Chelyabinsk, Russia.
